The movie, Captain America: The First Avenger, has definitely wowed movie-goers and has helped spark interest in people to buy captain america costume. The new movie which stars Chris Evans, as the scrawny Steve Rogers, who becomes Captain America with the help of the Super Soldier Serum, was a huge success in the box office and ties everything down for the upcoming ‘Avengers‘ movie set for next year.

History of Captain America

Captain America was one of he few characters that was used as part of the US propaganda to get new recruits to join the army during the dark days of World War II. The character together with the alter ego was created by legendary comic book creators Joe Simon and Jack Kirby for Timely Comics which later folded into what is now known as Marvel Comics.

Just like in the film, Captain America had a lot of adventures during his romp in the early 1940s. There were even lots of captain america halloween costume available during the time. After the war however, the character was dropped for awhile before being re-used again by Marvel as part of bringing in new readers for the then fledgling comic book titled The Avengers.

Captain America in the 21^st Century

The comic book counterpart of Captain America has seen a lot of fresh faces joining him for different adventures during different eras in the United States. While the cast changes for every writer who would handle the character, the same element that made Captain America a likeable character in the movie is still ever-present in the comic book series. No matter what the art is like and no matter what the stories are, they will always feature a Captain America that is noble and self-sacrificing. This might just be the biggest reason why people still get their Captain America costume out during Independence Day as well as during Halloween.
